HYMAN LTD. CLASSIC CARS EXPANDS
Pebble Beach-Winning Delahaye Anchors New 35,000 Square Ft Cathedral to Classic Cars in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, MO. (July 2004) – Hyman Ltd. Classic Cars, with one of the largest and most diverse offerings of quality collector cars for sale in the world, opened its new showroom/restoration facilities on July 1, 2004. Located at 2310 Chaffee Street in St. Louis, the renovated office/warehouse complex, which cost more than $2 million to complete, is designed to accommodate 175 cars in its main showroom, three additional cars in its spacious and luxurious lobby area, and 15 to 20 cars in the restoration shop.
Parked inside this “cathedral to classic cars” are some of the world’s most prestigious autos, including an award-winning 1937 Delahaye SWB Cabriolet with distinctive Figoni et Falaschi coachwork, which made automotive headlines when it captured both Best in Class and Best of Show trophies, at the 2000 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
“When we inaugurated our classic and special interest auto business in 1989 we started in a small rented garage with just 4,000 square feet of space,” says founder Mark Hyman. “Today, I’m happy to announce we’ve grown the business to the degree that we now occupy this magnificent showroom, a worthy backdrop to the great collector cars we source for discerning clients and collectors.”
VIP customers include designer Sergio Valenti, and renown vintner Rob Talbot, both of whom purchased several classic Jaguars, and Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford, who purchased a vintage truck and a vintage Volkswagen. One customer selected a 1955 Mercedes Gullwing and requested it shipped to California where it was presented as a 50th birthday gift for television and film star Oprah Winfrey.
Hyman Ltd. Classic Cars, with a worldwide reputation for having rare and unusual vehicles, sells approximately 300 vehicles per year, the majority of which come to its attention via referrals. Its inventory consists primarily of sports cars, high-end 1950s collectible cars and pre-war classics, especially one-off, coachbuilt European cars.
Most retail in the $35,000 to $75,000 range, with some priced between $100,000 and $300,000. A few notable examples have sold for upwards of $1 million.

On display in the new showroom are a series of pre- and post-war French cars, including a 1926 Bugatti T38 Figoni Tourer, a 1938 Talbot Lago T23 and a 1948 Delahaye 135 MS, both with sweeping Figoni et Falaschi coachwork, alongside the 1937 Pebble Beach winning Delahaye. Other quality examples include a fully restored 1935 Duesenberg Durham Sedan, an exceptionally beautiful 1942 Packard Darrin Victoria, and a one-off 1960 Rolls-Royce Cloud II with a custom Hooper body, fully restored.
The new site’s restoration facility is designed to undertake most renovations, focusing first on servicing all of a vehicle’s systems to make it roadworthy for potential customers. Skilled detailers handle cosmetic refurbishment, including preparing restored cars for competitions and concours events. Hyman Ltd. Classic Cars also offers complete mechanical repair for clients’ cars and can maintain entire collections for its customers.
“Typically we’ll have more than 100 cars in stock at any time,” says Hyman. “We’ve built our business with repeat customers who are constantly surprised and delighted by the exceptional quality and visual ‘pop’ of our cars, the knowledge of our staff and the attention to detail we deliver. We don’t follow the trends, but prefer to deal in cars that we love, because if we love them, we know our customers will love them.”
